We all know a video conference suite can set you back an extortionate amount of pounds! We also know that VC codec sales are decreasing. What is the reason for this? Well, allow me to offer my humble opinion on the matter…
To start with (and a big thanks to Wikipedia for giving me this next paragraph…)

The subset bitstream is derived by dropping packets from the larger bitstream.)”
So, with the above being said, and through my own not inconsiderable experience with SVC video communication platforms (desktop or mobile video licenses), I would say that spending in excess of £10,000 for a single purpose bit of hardware makes no damn sense to clients, who want more bang for their buck.
Expert, versatile applications that can cater not only for video conferencing but also for presentations, jumping onto a Skype call or a Google hangout session, recording trainings, and so on, are what the client expects now. Providing a resident high spec PC with appropriate graphic cards, and audio processor with wired or wireless ceiling or table microphones, and control interfaced onto an iPad or tablet, will give the client a truly agnostic and versatile environment that will ensure all their needs are met. All popular video licenses can be loaded onto the resident PC, and for any other requirements, they can simply log on to their chosen video platform via URL.
