Come with us behind the scenes as we showcase the relentless effort and planning required to create an unforgettable experience that explores historical newsworthy CLOs and their profound impact on the financial markets.

SETTING THE STAGE:

As the curtains rise on the Creditflux event, the atmosphere buzzes with anticipation. Months of preparation have gone into creating an environment where industry experts, investors, and curious minds can convene to gain insights into the captivating world of CLOs.
Working with our wonderful friends over at Grey Dog , the stage was meticulously designed to reflect the dynamic nature of the market. The stage had with an LED screen worthy of an event of this scale. 20m wide x 4m wide at a 2.6mm pitch delivering the highest quality video, imagery, charts and live updates.

A VISUALLY IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE!

Our system designers also specced an audio experience that was warm and comforting. Each presenter with their own lavalier and headset microphone for the highest quality audio.
10 of our top draw technicians, show callers, autocue operators and project managers managed the event. They were supported by the many unsung heroes that make up the back office team at Perception.

THE VENUE

The venue in 2023 was The Landmark Hotel.

Nestled in the heart of London, this iconic destination blends timeless elegance with modern luxury. This historic venue has played host to many notable events throughout its illustrious past, standing as a testament to its grandeur and prestige. Most recently, of course, was the Creditflux CLO Symposium.

The hotel, built in 1899, is one of the Great Central Hotels. The Landmark Hotel boasts a rich history that spans over a century. Designed by the renowned architect – Colonel Robert William Edis – the building served as a bustling railway hotel and welcomed distinguished guests travelling to and from the nearby Marylebone Station. Its architecture reflects the opulence of the Victorian era. Ornate detailing and a grand facade that exudes sophistication.

Over the years, the Landmark Hotel has witnessed a multitude of significant events. Notably, during World War II, the hotel played a crucial role as a meeting place for British intelligence agencies and hosted secret wartime conferences. This historical significance adds an air of intrigue and reverence to the venue, creating an ambience that resonates with the echoes of the past.

The hotel offers a diverse range of event spaces, accommodating gatherings of varying sizes and purposes. Whether hosting a corporate conference, a glamorous gala, or an intimate wedding, the Landmark Hotel provides versatile rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology and exceptional amenities and we at Perception are very familiar with the venue, working here quite regularly.

…but what is a CLO, click here to get a quick overview.

Now that you have a brief glimpse into that market and what it is (believe me, we had to do a little digging too) lets take a quick look at some historical CLO’s…

THE “BIG SHORT” MOMENT

The infamous “Big Short” era of the mid-2000s, was where a handful of astute investors foresaw the impending collapse of the subprime mortgage market. This historical episode serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the interconnections between CLOs, mortgage-backed securities, and the subsequent global financial crisis.
There is a Netflix film which is highly recommended to watch called The Big Short

Patrick Bet David recently tweeted this as one of 2 movies that must be watched!
…and here he discusses, on a Podcast, comments made by Micheal Burry from The Big Short about a big bubble burst coming.

THE RESURGENCE POST-FINANCIAL CRISIS:

Following the global financial crisis, the CLO market experienced a resurgence, driven by regulatory changes and the hunt for yield in a low-interest-rate environment. These factors contributed to the revival of the CLO market, presenting valuable lessons on adaptability and resilience.

THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC:

No discussion of historical CLOs would be complete without addressing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. CLOs weathered the storm of unprecedented challenges faced by the market.

The event saw expert panellists and presenters discuss and present topics such as risk management, regulatory frameworks, and the interconnectedness of various asset classes. Attendees gained a comprehensive understanding of how CLOs influence market liquidity, credit spreads, and investor sentiment.

Putting together an event on the CLO market for Creditflux requires careful attention to detail, extensive research, and an unwavering commitment to delivering an enriching experience. For our part, it is critical that the tools and instruments that we use to deliver the conversation to the wider audience, in the venue and those in remote locations dialling in live and on-demand, are matched only by the incredible program and content which Creditflux had put together.
We look forward to many more years of working with Grey Dog and Ion Analytics
