The photography world elite were gathered for the Sony World Photography Organisation’s 10th Annual Awards show last Thursday 20th April 2017. This is a show that we,Perception Live, are proud to have been involved with for the past 7 years.
In the Ballroom of the Hilton Mayfair, the three 16ft x 9ft screens spanned the width of the room creating a fitting showcase on which the audience could view the exceptional entries & winners of 2017.
The Perception Team – led by Senior Project Manager, Tim Jones, and directed in the dugout by Show Caller, Kevin Mullery – were on point as always, introducing for the first time the use of a Hippotiser media server. In previous years, we have used Macs running Playback Pro for all content and a pair of Diventix switchers to manage the screens. This meant having to synchronise multiple button pushes, and two operators. This year, everything was programmed cue-to-cue, so the whole show ran as even smoother than usual.
The run up to the show:
As well as the tech involved in this show, we have to say hat’s off to the team, some of whom worked tirelessly from 2am. We had a team of 20 loading in and along with the in-house rigging team started installing three Laser Projectors, The Hippo, Lightware DVI distribution, lighting and sound.
By 8am, all the flown kit was up and we were ready to crack on with the rest of the rig.
By 10am the rest of the dream team arrived consisting of:
- Show caller
- Hippo operator
- Sound technician
- Three camera operators
- Vision mixer
- Lighting operator
The afternoon was all about system checks, dry run and client rehearsals, all leading up to the eventual show, with doors opening at 18:30 for a 19:00 start.
If you didn’t manage to experience the Awards, there is still time to visit the 2017 Exhibition up until 7th May. This is now open at the prestigious Somerset House in London.
