Review: Chauvet Rogue R1 Wash

The Rogue R1 is a small intelligent fixture that is perfect for multiple applications that require large washes or tight beams. This light is perfect for simple standalone setups or as part of a larger rig. Part of the Rogue range from Chauvet, which includes some of the other lights we own; the Chauvet R2 Spot, the big brother to the R1 Wash.

Because it uses LEDs rather than a lamp this light is super bright and uses minimal power. It has up to 540 degrees pan availability and up to 230 degrees tilt means it can hit any point of the room it’s placed in. This light also moves incredibly fast and accurately.

There’s a massive set of pre-set colours available to you in almost every personality I worked with or there’s full RGB colour mixing allowing you to create almost any colour you could imagine. One of the massive stand out features of this light is the ability to zoom meaning it can go from a large 30 degrees wash all the way down to a tight 8-degree beam allowing you to use it for multiple applications even in the same rig. With a power consumption of just over half an amp each at 230v these useful lights won’t put any strain on a power supply even when being used in an area where phase power isn’t available.

The manual mode available on these lights also allows you to use them without a dedicated lighting desk.

MY OPINION

I think this light is awesome for a range of applications, I love that it’s easy to rig, easy to power, has loads of uses and is just a good all-rounder for a variety of uses. For what the light is its super cheap to buy which means you can add more to the rig, its powerful and can be used as a general wash or as a beam effect. It works well by itself or in a big rig along with the other lights in the range.
